gods  good  books

just    been  reading  a  Bukowski  poem,
i  find  reading  them  keeps  me  a  little  bit
on  the  sane  side.

problem  is  i  have  almost  read  them  all
but i  have

a  bad  memory
so  i  could  always
re-read  the  ones  i  have  read  already.

in  the  poem  i  am  thinking  about
he  is  close  to  death
or  hopefully  closer  then  me

and  he  says  death  will  probably  be
a  test
just  like  life  is  a  test.

he  seems  to  be  saying  that  it's  something
you can  never  escape  from
even  through  death
or  after  it.

and  i  tend  to  agree
why  would  god  put  us  through  this
living  hell

with  some  good  bits  thrown  in
if  you  are  lucky.

just  to  let  us  off  the  hook  when  we
die.

it  just  does  not  make  any  sense
or  logic.

so  it  looks  like  the  test  will
continue.

i  wonder  how  my  score  sheet  is  looking ?
not  good  I'm  afraid

getting  drunk  senseless  down  some  club
dancing  like  a man  possessed
and  probably  being  ejected

i  say  probably  because  i  also  lost  my
memory
self  control

and  the  little  bit  of  sanity
i  still  possess.

although  i  did  write  a  poem
before  going  out

but  i  doubt  that  will  balance  up  the
books

even  if  it  had  been  a  good  one
which  it  was  not.

so  i  guess  i  am  probably  well  into
minus  figures  at  the  moment
on  the  test  sheet  score.

although  i  did  help  out  at  a 
charity  type  Christmas  dinner
for  homeless  people
and  there  ilk.

but  that  was  only  for  one  night
so  i  might  have  got  a  plus  point  for
that
but  only  the  one.

i  reckon  I'm  probably  about  minus  100
or  1000
at  the  moment

so   I've  got  a  lot  of  catching
up  to  do.
if  only  i  could  write  a  really  good

decent
upstanding , righteous   poem
maybe  i  would  get  10  plus  points

so  if  i  could  write
100 of  them
maybe  i  would  be

in  the  plus  rather  then  the  minus
region.

but  I'm  afraid
it's  just  not  in  me.

i  just  hope
you  can  put  things  right

after  death
but  i  bet  you  can't

and  then  you'll  be  in  minus  figures
for  ever.

although  i  bet  you  can  not  drink
after  death

which  should  make  my  non  life
a  lot  easier.

anyhow,
all  I'm  saying

is  maybe  death  is  not  the  final  test
maybe  we  have  more  to  come

that  would  really  put  a  smirk  on
gods  face.

maybe  i'll get  a  plus  point  for  this ?
or  i  could  try  for  more.

be  kind to  people
be  generous  in  spirit
be  gentle
be  loving  to  all
even  the  nasty  mean  ones.

be  giving  rather  then  taking.
be  nice  to  all  animals.

and  never  pick  your  nose
or  wipe  your  dirty  nose

on  your  sleeve.
be  good.

and  allways  say  plaese
and  thankyou.

hell  i  can  do  it !
should  get  ten  plus  points  for  this
only  another  100  or  so  to  write

then  i  might  be  in  gods
good  books.

(will  the  lost  souls  with  the  purple  passes  please  give  kindly).
